Do I need a permit?

There are two possible permits required for an Alarm System.
Electrical Permit: Many Cities no longer require an Electrical Permit for Residential Wireless Alarm Systems. Some Cities no longer require an Electrical Permit for Commercial Wireless Alarm Systems.
Alarm Registration: Most Cities require the Residential or Commercial Alarm system to be registered with the local police agency. The fees vary from City to City. Some Cities charge an Annual Fee but give credit for False Alarm Reduction. Some Cities charge a one time Alarm Registration Fee.

Some cities require the alarm company to obtain a permit for the installation.
In that case, it is the responsibility of the alarm company to get the permit while the homeowner bares the cost of the permit. Some cities require the homeowner to have a 'users permit'. In most cases this is the homeowner's responsibility.
