In the event of an actual break in, the burglar usually leaves as soon as he hears the siren. 60 seconds after the siren sounds and no attempt (or a failed attempt) has been made to enter a code to cancel the alarm; the monitoring center calls the premises. They will ask the person who answers the phone for a password. If the correct password is given and the person assures them that everything is okay the call ends. If there is no answer, the police are dispatched and the monitoring center begins calling the people on the call list.
